34 Andhra Trawlers Rescued Off Odisha Coast Amid Rough Seas

NewsBhumika Lenka06 Jul 2026

July 6 (UDN): Thirty-four fishing trawlers from Andhra Pradesh were safely rescued after being stranded in rough sea conditions off the coast of Odisha on Monday. The incident occurred due to adverse weather triggered by a low-pressure system over the region, which led to strong winds and turbulent sea conditions.

The trawlers, carrying fishermen from Kakinada, were caught near the Aryapalli coast under Chhatrapur block in Ganjam district. The sudden change in weather prevented the vessels from safely returning to their home port, leaving them stranded at sea.

Following alerts about the worsening conditions, coordinated rescue efforts were launched to ensure the safe return of all vessels and crew members. Despite challenging weather and rough waters, all 34 trawlers were brought to safety without any reported casualties or major injuries.

Authorities have advised fishermen along the Odisha coast to exercise caution and avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve further, as the low-pressure system continues to affect coastal weather patterns.

The successful rescue operation highlights timely coordination and response by maritime and local authorities in managing weather-related emergencies at sea.
