Koraput, June 24 (UDN): In a shocking incident, a 65-year-old man was brutally beaten to death in Jhilimili village under Borigumma police station limits in Odisha’s Koraput district, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Samnath Bhatra, a resident of the same village. According to preliminary information, the victim was allegedly attacked and beaten mercilessly by a youth following an unidentified dispute.
The accused, identified as Harihar Bhumia of the same village, is said to have carried out the assault, resulting in the victim’s death on the spot. The motive behind the killing is yet to be clearly established and is under investigation.
After committing the crime, the accused allegedly attempted to flee from the village. However, alert villagers managed to overpower him and later handed him over to Borigumma police.
Police have detained the accused and initiated a detailed investigation into the incident. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Officials said further inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances leading to the brutal attack. The incident has created tension in the village area.
