Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): Rainfall activity is likely to remain intense across Odisha over the next few days as the state continues to be affected by a deep depression, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rain in several areas.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a red warning for Nabarangpur for isolated extremely heavy rainfall, while several districts have been placed under orange and yellow warnings.

Nabarangpur Under Red Warning

Nabarangpur is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places, with isolated spells of extremely heavy rain.

Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri have been placed under an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal and Rayagada are under a yellow warning for isolated heavy rainfall.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely in several parts of the state, with gusty winds possible in affected areas.

Rain to Persist Over the Weekend

The weather system is expected to keep rainfall activity elevated across Odisha. The IMD forecast indicates very heavy rain on September 25 and 26, followed by heavy rainfall in parts of the state on September 27.

For Friday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of southern and western Odisha, particularly Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri. Bargarh, Balangir, Sonepur, Kandhamal and Rayagada may also receive isolated heavy rain.

Authorities Maintain Vigil

The continuing spell of rain could lead to waterlogging, disruption of normal traffic and localised flooding in vulnerable areas. Residents in districts under higher-level warnings have been advised to remain alert and follow updates and advisories issued by the authorities.

The weather conditions follow the movement of the deep depression that crossed the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coast, bringing heavy rainfall to several parts of the region.
