IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms in Four Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, June 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds in parts of Odisha over the next three hours.

According to the nowcast issued at 11:30 am, districts including Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience adverse weather conditions.

The IMD said isolated places in these districts may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall activity, along with strong surface winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and stay updated with local weather alerts, especially those engaged in outdoor work or travel. People have been urged to move to safer locations if conditions worsen to avoid risks associated with lightning strikes and strong winds.

Officials also cautioned against taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms and recommended following standard safety guidelines issued during severe weather conditions.

The alert comes as part of routine nowcasting updates aimed at ensuring timely public awareness of rapidly changing weather conditions.
