Jharsuguda Hosts District-Level PM-Kisan Utsav, Highlighting Government Initiatives for Farmers' Welfare and Agricultural Growth

Jharsuguda:June 26 {UDN}:  On the occasion of the District-Level PM-Kisan Utsav 2026, a virtual programme was organized today during which the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, transferred the next installment of funds under the PM-Kisan scheme to millions of farmers across the country.
On this occasion, more than 3.46 million farmers in Odisha received a total of ₹693 crore as the 23rd installment through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This financial assistance is expected to strengthen agricultural activities and contribute significantly to the economic empowerment of farmers.
Under the PM-Kisan Scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal installments. The assistance helps farmers purchase agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, farming equipment, and meet other cultivation-related expenses.
To mark the occasion, extensive arrangements were made across Jharsuguda district, including block and panchayat levels, for the live telecast of the Prime Minister’s address. Farmers from across the district enthusiastically participated and listened to his speech.
The district-level celebration was attended by Jharsuguda Collector Shri Kunal Motiram Chavan as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Minister’s representative Shri Raghunandan Panda, Member of Parliament’s representative Shri Shlok Sharma, and Jharsuguda General Secretary Shri Premsen Rai.
At the beginning of the programme, Chief District Agriculture Officer Shri Pradeep Kumar Nanda delivered the welcome address and highlighted the objectives of the event. Dr. Susmita Panda, Scientist at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), coordinated the programme, while Dr. Sameer Ranjan Das, Senior Scientist at KVK, proposed the vote of thanks.
According to official information, a total of 34,086 farmers in Jharsuguda district benefited from the 23rd PM-Kisan installment, receiving a combined amount of ₹6.81 crore (₹6,81,72,000) directly into their bank accounts.
Block-wise beneficiary details are as follows:
Jharsuguda Block: 4,635 farmers
Kirmira Block: 5,539 farmers
Kolabira Block: 5,856 farmers
Laikera Block: 6,959 farmers
Lakhanpur Block: 11,097 farmers
The total assistance amount of ₹6.81 crore was credited directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
The event was attended by district and block-level officials, hundreds of farmers from different parts of the district, and representatives of the media. The programme highlighted the government’s continued commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector through direct financial assistance.
