Jharsuguda, July 10 (UDN): Jharsuguda Police have achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a murder accused who had been absconding for nearly three decades after escaping from police custody in 1998.
The accused was wanted in connection with a murder case registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to abduction, murder, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. He had escaped while being taken into custody in 1998 and remained untraceable for several years.
Police investigations revealed that during his period of abscondence, the accused allegedly changed his identity and lived in Raigarh under a different name. He reportedly obtained official identity documents using the assumed identity in an attempt to avoid detection.
Following extensive intelligence gathering, verification, and sustained efforts, a police team successfully traced and arrested him. The accused has been produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
Jharsuguda Police said the arrest reflects their continued commitment to pursuing long-pending cases and ensuring that those accused of serious crimes are brought before the law, regardless of how much time has passed.
