Puri, Sept. 24 (UDN): A tourist couple from Mysuru in Karnataka was allegedly assaulted by employees of a hotel in Puri following a dispute over food, with the incident reportedly taking place on Wednesday night.
The couple, identified as Bharat Chandra and his 23-year-old pregnant wife Susmita R, were reportedly injured during the altercation at The Taste of Bengal hotel under the jurisdiction of Puri Sea Beach Police Station.
Dispute Over Hair Found In Food
According to reports, the couple was part of a group of 13 tourists from Mysuru who had visited Puri. After spending time at the beach, the group went to the hotel for dinner.
The tourists reportedly found a strand of hair in one of the dishes and asked the hotel staff to replace the food. An argument allegedly followed after the couple questioned whether they should be charged for the disputed dish.
The situation reportedly escalated, with the couple alleging that several hotel employees became involved in the confrontation.
Couple Rescued By PCR Team
According to the couple, the hotel shutter was brought down during the altercation, after which the two were allegedly assaulted. Susmita reportedly sustained an injury to her abdomen after it struck a table, while her husband was also allegedly beaten when he intervened.
A police control room (PCR) team reportedly reached the hotel after receiving information about the incident and rescued the couple. They were subsequently taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri for medical treatment.
The alleged assault was also recorded on the couple's mobile phone, according to reports.
Police Probe Underway
The couple has sought action against those allegedly involved in the incident. Susmita, who is pregnant, reportedly expressed distress over the incident and said she did not wish to return to Puri.
Police have begun looking into the allegations and are examining the circumstances surrounding the dispute. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
