Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 [UDN}:  The prestigious Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum Certification was awarded to Lok Bhavan after it achieved an impressive 88 points out of 100, earning the highest level of green building rating.

Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati received the certificate from IGBC Chairman C. Shekar Reddy.

Lok Bhavan has adopted several major initiatives to promote environmental sustainability and green development. These include a 635-kilowatt solar power plant, a completely electric vehicle fleet/carcade, and plans for the installation of wind turbines. The campus is also taking significant steps to promote greenery, renewable energy and environmentally sustainable infrastructure.

The Governor stated that he would showcase this prestigious certification to the Prime Minister during his visit to Delhi. He also appealed to universities and educational institutions to transform their campuses into environmentally sustainable and green campuses by adopting renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure and other eco-friendly measures.

The programme was attended by Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, senior government officials and secretaries, Vice-Chancellors of universities, and officials of the Indian Green Building Council.

The achievement marks an important milestone for Odisha in its efforts to promote sustainable development, clean energy and environmentally responsible public infrastructure. Lok Bhavan’s recognition as the country’s first IGBC Platinum-certified green campus is expected to encourage other government institutions, universities and organisations to adopt similar green practices.
