Monsoon Set to Advance Over Odisha; IMD Issues Orange Alerts for Several Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into Odisha over the next few days, with rainfall and thunderstorm activity expected to intensify across the state.

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were recorded in parts of the state in the past 24 hours, with Ambabhona in Bargarh recording the highest rainfall of 4 cm.

An Orange Warning has been issued for several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Mayurbhanj and others, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated places.

A Yellow Warning has also been issued for multiple other districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 40–50 kmph may occur during the day.

From June 11 onwards, rainfall activity is expected to increase further, with heavy rain likely in parts of Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri and neighbouring districts over the following days.

The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and follow safety precautions during lightning activity.
