Odisha Begins Large-Scale Electoral Roll Revision Under EC Supervision

Bhubaneswar, June 1: The Election Commission of India has initiated a large-scale door-to-door voter verification exercise in Odisha as part of the Enumeration Phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The statewide drive aims to ensure accurate, updated, and inclusive voter lists ahead of upcoming electoral processes.

The exercise covers more than 3.34 crore registered electors in Odisha and is being conducted simultaneously in select states, including Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur. Over 45,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed to carry out household-level verification and collect updated voter information.

The door-to-door process, which began on May 30 and will continue until June 28, involves verifying existing voter details, identifying eligible new voters, and correcting discrepancies in the electoral database. Officials stated that the initiative is designed to strengthen the integrity of electoral rolls and ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the democratic process.

Authorities emphasized that accurate voter lists are fundamental to free and fair elections, as they help prevent duplication, eliminate ineligible entries, and improve overall transparency in the electoral system. The Special Intensive Revision is expected to enhance public confidence in the voting process by ensuring that electoral data reflects ground realities.

The Election Commission has urged citizens to cooperate with Booth Level Officers during the verification process and provide correct information to facilitate smooth completion of the exercise. Officials also highlighted that the initiative plays a key role in strengthening democratic participation and improving electoral governance.

The ongoing drive is considered a significant administrative exercise, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining clean and reliable electoral rolls across the country.
