Bhubaneswar, May 27: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today laid the foundation stone for a major integrated steel project by JSW Steel, valued at around ₹65,000 crore, marking one of the largest industrial investments in the state.

The project is expected to significantly boost Odisha’s industrial ecosystem and generate approximately 32,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, strengthening livelihood prospects in the region.

Officials said the upcoming steel plant will play a key role in expanding the state’s manufacturing capacity, attracting allied industries, and reinforcing Odisha’s position as a key hub for heavy industries in India.

The initiative aligns with the state’s broader industrial development strategy focused on large-scale investment promotion, job creation, and infrastructure-led growth.

Government representatives noted that the project is expected to stimulate ancillary development, including logistics, transport, and small-scale industrial units in surrounding areas, contributing to overall regional economic growth.

Industry experts believe the investment will further strengthen India’s steel production capabilities while enhancing Odisha’s role in the country’s industrial expansion roadmap.
