Welcoming delegates from participating countries, the Chief Minister called for deeper global and inter-state cooperation to address the rising frequency and intensity of climate-induced disasters. He stressed that no single nation can effectively tackle emerging disaster challenges alone, making coordinated action and shared learning essential.
Highlighting Odisha’s globally recognised “Zero Casualty” disaster management model, he said the state has consistently demonstrated how timely planning, community participation, and efficient early warning systems can significantly reduce loss of life during natural calamities. He further emphasised the need to continuously strengthen disaster preparedness through innovation, resilient infrastructure, and capacity building at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister also pointed out that key infrastructure developments, including the recently approved Greenfield Coastal Highway, will further enhance Odisha’s emergency response systems and improve connectivity in vulnerable coastal regions during disaster situations.
Expressing optimism about the outcomes of the deliberations in Puri, he said the discussions could play an important role in shaping future global frameworks for disaster risk reduction, resilience building, and climate adaptation strategies.
Officials said the meeting brings together experts and representatives from multiple countries to exchange best practices and strengthen cooperation in disaster management.
