Bhubaneswar, May 28: A severe heatwave continued to affect several parts of Odisha on Thursday, with western and northern regions bearing the brunt of rising temperatures, according to observations from the India Meteorological Department.
Early morning readings showed Sambalpur as the hottest location in the state at 39.4°C, followed by Hirakud at 37.6°C. The state capital Bhubaneswar recorded 35.2°C, while Jharsuguda registered 34.7°C. Other areas, including Keonjhar and Chandbali, reported 33.0°C each, with Balasore at 32.6°C.
While coastal regions remained relatively moderate, interior districts of western Odisha continued to experience intense heat conditions, leading to difficult daytime conditions for residents, especially outdoor workers.
The IMD has advised people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours between 11 am and 3 pm, and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, particularly among children, the elderly, and those working outdoors.
