Malkangiri, Sept. 24 (UDN): Odisha remained on alert on Thursday as incessant rain triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal caused waterlogging, disrupted road connectivity and raised concerns over a possible flood-like situation in several parts of the state.
Several districts, particularly in southern and coastal Odisha, have witnessed intense rainfall, with low-lying areas bearing the brunt of the downpour. Rising water levels in rivers and streams have added to concerns in vulnerable locations.
Malkangiri Roads Hit by Rising Water
Malkangiri has reported significant disruption following continuous rainfall. Around three feet of water was flowing over the Kankarkonda bridge, while the Kanyashram bridge on the Kalimela-Padia road was also inundated.
Water was also reported flowing over bridges at Pangam and Pateru, affecting road connectivity in the district.
The situation has severely disrupted vehicular movement along NH-326, with commuters facing difficulties at several stretches.
River Levels Under Watch
The continuing rainfall has raised concerns over rising water levels in the Mahanadi and other rivers. Authorities are keeping a close watch on vulnerable areas as further rainfall could worsen waterlogging and increase the risk of localised flooding.
The impact is being closely monitored in southern and coastal districts, where several areas have already received heavy to very heavy rainfall.
More Rain Forecast
The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall across Odisha over the next two days, with heavy rain likely in several parts of southern, western and northern districts.
With the weather system continuing to influence the state, authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert and monitor official updates, particularly in locations prone to flooding and waterlogging.
