Bhubaneswar, Sept 10 [UDN}:A high-level review meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan today under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Deoranajan Kumar Singh, with a strong focus on reducing road accident fatalities across Odisha and ensuring the successful implementation of ‘Zero Fatality Week’.
The meeting was attended by DGP Binaytosh Mishra, Principal Secretary of the Commerce and Transport Department N.B.S. Rajput, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, and other senior officials. District Collectors, Superintendents of Police and Regional Transport Officers from all districts also participated through video conferencing.
During the meeting, the Development Commissioner directed officials to intensify road-safety measures, particularly in districts identified as highly vulnerable to road accidents. Authorities were instructed to carry out strict enforcement and regular vehicle checks, identify and rectify dangerous black spots, and strengthen public awareness campaigns on responsible road use.
Special emphasis was also placed on ensuring rapid medical assistance during the ‘Golden Hour’ following an accident, as timely treatment can significantly improve the chances of saving lives.
The administration has been asked to adopt a coordinated approach involving district authorities, police, transport officials, road agencies and healthcare institutions to make roads safer and bring down the number of deaths caused by road accidents in the state.
