Bhubaneswar, May 27: In a significant step towards strengthening rural development, the Odisha government has announced the Model Village Mission, aimed at transforming villages into self-reliant, well-equipped, and sustainable communities.

Under this initiative, the state plans to develop the main villages of all 6,733 gram panchayats with improved infrastructure and modern civic amenities. The programme is designed to promote balanced rural development by ensuring access to essential facilities and improving the overall quality of life in villages across the state.
Officials said the mission reflects the government’s vision of building empowered and self-governing rural units that can support local economic activity and reduce developmental gaps between rural and urban areas. The focus will be on upgrading basic infrastructure, strengthening service delivery systems, and enhancing connectivity and public utilities at the village level.
The initiative is expected to play a key role in advancing holistic rural development in Odisha by creating more sustainable and resilient village ecosystems.
