Bhubaneswar, Aug 5 (UDN): The Odisha government is planning a major tourism development initiative to transform the Chilika Lake, Maa Kalijai Temple, and Satapada region into a world-class tourism destination while protecting the area’s rich ecological heritage.
The state government is preparing a comprehensive master plan focused on improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing visitor facilities, and promoting sustainable development around Chilika Lake, one of Asia’s largest brackish water lagoons.
The proposed project is expected to strengthen Odisha’s tourism sector by attracting more domestic and international visitors, creating new business opportunities, and supporting local communities dependent on tourism-related activities.
The development plan will focus on improving connectivity, eco-friendly infrastructure, hospitality services, cultural experiences, and nature-based tourism. By combining environmental conservation with tourism growth, Odisha aims to create a model destination that balances economic development with ecological protection.
Chilika Lake is already a major attraction due to its biodiversity, migratory birds, fishing communities, and scenic landscapes. The inclusion of Maa Kalijai Temple and the Satapada region is expected to further promote religious, cultural, and coastal tourism in the state.
