Bhubaneswar, Sept. 24 (UDN): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for 22 districts of Odisha, forecasting light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during the next three hours.
The warning, issued at 1 pm on Thursday, comes as the state continues to experience unsettled weather under the influence of a deep depression.
22 Districts On Weather Alert
According to the IMD, the affected districts are Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Balangir, Deogarh, Boudh, Puri, Khordha, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Rayagada and Subarnapur.
Rain and thunderstorms are likely at many places in these districts, including Puri, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack cities.
Gusty Winds Up To 40 Kmph
The weather system may also trigger gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 kmph in the alerted areas. Thunder and lightning are likely to accompany the rainfall.
The IMD has advised people to remain alert to changing weather conditions and plan outdoor activities accordingly.
Residents are particularly advised to take precautions during thunderstorms and avoid exposed locations if lightning activity intensifies.
