Bolangir, June 4: A rice mill in Bolangir district has been sealed indefinitely after a worker was critically injured in a boiler explosion, prompting serious concerns over industrial safety compliance in the region.

The incident occurred at a rice milling unit in the Saintala area, where a boiler used for paddy processing reportedly exploded during routine operations. The blast left a worker severely injured, who was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following the incident, local authorities and safety inspectors visited the site and ordered the closure of the unit. Preliminary findings suggest possible lapses in safety protocols and maintenance of the boiler system.

Officials said the mill will remain shut until a detailed investigation is completed and compliance with safety norms is fully verified. Authorities are also examining whether required inspections and certifications were in place at the time of the incident.

The case has once again highlighted concerns over boiler safety in small and medium industrial units, where repeated incidents have raised questions about monitoring, enforcement, and worker protection standards.

Further action will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
