Jharigaon, June 23 {UDN}: The Maa Thakurani Cricket Tournament, organized at Mahandi village under Belgaon Panchayat in Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district, concluded successfully after eight days of competition.
Cricket teams from various villages of the region participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Goramba and Sandasa. After winning the toss, Sandasa chose to bat first and scored 75 runs in 12 overs.
In reply, Goramba chased down the target by losing only two wickets, thereby becoming the tournament champion. Sandasa finished as the runners-up.
A large number of cricket enthusiasts and spectators gathered to witness the final match. The players’ impressive performances provided great entertainment to the audience.
At the closing ceremony, Narasimha Bhatra and MLA Representative Ganapati Sahu attended as chief guests. They presented the winning Goramba team with a cash prize of ₹10,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up Sandasa team received a cash prize of ₹7,000 and a trophy.
The tournament was organized through the efforts of the village youth. Chhabi, Padan, Kust, Ranjan, Sapan, and several other young volunteers played an active role in ensuring its success. Their dedication and cooperation helped the event conclude smoothly.
Local intellectuals and community members expressed that the cricket tournament not only promoted interest in sports in the region but also fostered brotherhood, unity, and goodwill among the youth, strengthening social harmony in the community.
