Bhubaneswar, July 27 (UDN): Two youths were detained in Bhubaneswar after local residents suspected them of attempting to circulate fake currency notes. The incident took place near the Chilli Pokhari area under the jurisdiction of Badagada Police Station, prompting an investigation into the source of the seized cash.
According to preliminary information, the duo allegedly drew the attention of local residents due to their suspicious activities. Acting on their suspicion, locals intercepted the youths and later handed them over to the police for further inquiry.
Police recovered a quantity of currency notes from the possession of the two detained individuals. However, officials have not yet confirmed whether the notes are counterfeit. The recovered cash has been sent for detailed examination to determine its authenticity.
Investigators have launched a probe to ascertain where the suspected currency originated and whether the detained youths were acting independently or were linked to a larger counterfeit currency network.
Police are also examining the possibility of an organised racket operating behind the alleged circulation of fake notes in the city. The two suspects are being questioned, and further action will be taken after forensic verification of the seized currency and the outcome of the investigation.
Officials have urged the public not to jump to conclusions until the verification process is complete, as the authenticity of the recovered notes is yet to be established.
