Forest officials confirmed that the cubs were born on May 28 and said that both the mother and her newborns are under close surveillance to ensure their safety in the wild.

Following the birth, forest authorities have strengthened protection measures in the core area of the reserve, restricting human movement and intensifying monitoring to minimise disturbance to the tigress and her cubs.

Zeenat was relocated to Similipal from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in November 2024 as part of efforts to improve genetic diversity and strengthen the tiger population in the reserve. Since her translocation, she has been continuously tracked by forest department teams.

Officials said the successful birth is a positive indicator of the reserve’s habitat suitability and the effectiveness of ongoing conservation initiatives aimed at stabilising and growing the tiger population.

The arrival of four cubs is being viewed as a strong boost to wildlife conservation efforts in Similipal and a hopeful sign for long-term tiger population recovery in the region.
