Rourkela, June 25 (UDN): In a significant global academic recognition, 67 faculty members from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela have been featured in the SciRank Global World’s Top 5% Scientists List.
The annual list, published by the Global Institute of Scientometrics, identifies researchers who have made outstanding scientific contributions based on the impact of their work. The latest edition evaluates more than 10 million researcher profiles and around 50 million scholarly publications worldwide.
According to the institute, the ranking is based on field-normalised bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex, ensuring a transparent and data-driven assessment of scientific output and impact.
NIT Rourkela Director Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao congratulated the faculty members, stating that the recognition reflects the institute’s strong research ecosystem, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to solving real-world challenges through science and technology.
He said the achievement highlights the dedication of faculty members toward research excellence and innovation, adding that their contributions will continue to strengthen academic and societal impact in the years ahead.
Department-wise analysis showed that the Department of Chemistry had the highest number of faculty members featured in the list, followed by Computer Science and Engineering, Life Science, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.
Officials said the recognition underscores NIT Rourkela’s growing global research footprint and its strong performance across both core and emerging scientific disciplines.
