May 29: Odisha has stepped up coastal security measures in Kendrapara district amid concerns over possible illegal infiltration from across the sea route, following intensified verification and eviction drives in neighbouring West Bengal.
Security agencies have increased surveillance along vulnerable coastal stretches, with special focus on areas such as Mahakalpada and Rajnagar. Monitoring has been strengthened to track suspicious movement along sea routes and to ensure timely detection of any unauthorised entry.
Officials said that coastal patrols have been reinforced and coordination among marine police, coast guard units, and local intelligence networks has been enhanced to improve situational awareness in the region.
The heightened alert comes as authorities in the eastern coastal belt remain cautious about potential cross-border movement through maritime channels. Security arrangements are being reviewed regularly to address emerging risks and ensure effective coastal management.
Local administrative units have also been advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity along coastal villages and landing points. Awareness efforts have been stepped up in sensitive pockets to support community participation in coastal security.
Authorities reiterated that the measures are preventive in nature and aimed at strengthening maritime security infrastructure and safeguarding the coastline.
