Bhubaneswar, May 28: The Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) has initiated steps to introduce electric boats at major tourist destinations across the state, replacing conventional diesel-powered vessels as part of a push toward sustainable tourism.
The move aims to reduce water and air pollution while offering a quieter, cleaner, and more eco-friendly experience for visitors. Officials said the transition is part of Odisha’s broader strategy to promote environmentally responsible tourism infrastructure.
Electric boats are expected to be deployed in phases across key water-based tourist hubs, improving both operational efficiency and visitor comfort. The initiative also aligns with efforts to modernize tourism facilities while protecting natural ecosystems.
Tourism authorities noted that replacing diesel boats with electric alternatives will significantly lower carbon emissions and enhance the overall aesthetic and experience of Odisha’s scenic destinations.
The programme reflects the state’s commitment to green mobility and sustainable tourism development, while also improving the quality of services offered to domestic and international tourists.
