Bhubaneswar, May 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast highly variable weather conditions across Odisha over the next several days, with a combination of thunderstorms, gusty winds, rainfall, and heatwave conditions likely to impact multiple districts.
For the first day of the forecast period (until 0830 IST, May 25, 2026), light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected at isolated locations across the state. An orange warning has been issued for districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam. These areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 50–60 kmph during afternoon and evening hours.
At the same time, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in isolated pockets of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, and Bolangir, raising concerns over heat stress. A yellow warning has also been issued for several other districts, including Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and nearby regions, where thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, and hot, humid conditions are expected.
The IMD has indicated that this mixed weather pattern is likely to continue into the following days (May 25–26), with similar orange alerts for thunderstorms in northern and southern districts, while heatwave conditions may persist in western Odisha. Yellow warnings remain in place for several central and coastal districts, highlighting the possibility of unstable weather, warm nights, and localized weather disruptions.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid outdoor activities during severe weather conditions, and stay updated with official forecasts as the situation develops.
